Past Perfect Tense is used to describe such actions which started in Past and Got Complete. For those actions of Past, which came to the end after being started, we use Past Perfect Tense. Past Perfect Tense is very simple and easy to understand because in this lesson, we have explained it very clearly and in easy way. This lesson will make you able to understand Past Perfect Tense completely clearing all the concepts.
یہ ٹینس ایک ایسا ایکشن بتاتا ہے جو ماضی کے کسی خاص وقت سے پہلے مکمل ہو چکا تھا ۔
بظاہر اس ٹینس میں کوئی دورانیہ نہیں۔ لیکن اگر غور کریں تو پتہ چلتا ہے کہ ایکشن کسی خاص وقت سے پہلے مکمل ہو گیا تھا ۔
میں خط لکھ چکا تھا ۔ ۔۔۔۔ شام سے پہلے
میں خط لکھ چکا تھا ۔۔۔۔۔۔ اس کے آنے سے پہلے
چکا تھا, چکی تھی ، چکے تھے, لے لیا تھا ، دے دیا تھا ، کر لیا تھا وغیرہ آتا ہے ۔
- Past Perfect Tense uses Third Form of Verb
- Helping Verb used in Past Perfect Tense is Had. Had is used with all the subjects
Positive Sentences
Positive Sentences of Past Perfect Tense use a very simple Structure which is very easy to remember. At the beginning, we have subject, then helping verb, then form of verb and then finally we have Object. Complete structure is given below
Subject + Had + Third Form of Verb + Object

| The people had watched the Drama. | لوگوں نے ڈرامہ دیکھا تھا۔ |
| The Market had closed. | مارکیٹ بند ہو چکی تھی۔ |
| The boys had won the match. | لڑکوں نے میچ جیتا تھا ۔ |
| Sehrish had decorated the home. | سحرش نے گھر سجایا تھا ۔ |
| The gardener had watered the plants. | مالی نے پودوں کو پانی دے دیا تھا۔ |
| The Govt. had announced the new prices. | حکومت نے نئی قیمتوں کا اعلان کر دیا تھا۔ |
Negative Sentences
If we talk about the structure of Negative Sentences, we have the same structure as have already used in Positive Sentences with only one Change and that is NOT. With the addition of NOT after the helping verb, remaining structure will be same. Structure of Negative Sentences is given below
Subject + had Not + 3rd form of verb + Object.
| We had not eaten meal before evening. | ہم نے شام سے پہلے کھانا نہیں کھایا تھا۔ |
| The girl had not danced on song. | لڑکی نے گانے پہ ڈانس نہیں کیا تھا ۔ |
| Nazia had not worn new dress. | نازیہ نے نیا ڈریس نہیں پہنا تھا۔ |
| He had not told the truth. | آس نے سچ نہیں بولا تھا ۔ |
| He had not stolen money. | اس نے چوری نہیں کی تھی ۔ |
| The bag had not torn out. | بیگ پھٹ نہیں گیا تھا۔ |
| The sun had not set in. | سورج غروب نہیں ہوا تھا ۔ |
| The floor had not made yet. | ابھی تک فرش نہیں بنا تھا ۔ |
| The school had not open. | سکول نہیں کھولا گیا تھا ۔ |
| Market had not been closed | مارکیٹ بند نہیں ہو چکی تھی۔ |
Interrogative Sentences
Coming towards Interrogative Sentences, we have to swap the position of Subject and Helping Verb. After Swapping, Helping Verb will be used at the beginning of sentence and then we will put the Subject. Structure of Interrogative Sentences is given below
Had + Subject+ 3rd form of verb + Object ?

| Had the principal changed her decision? | کیا پرنسپل نے اپنا فیصلہ بدلہ تھا ؟ |

| Had he Visited the zoo? | کیا اس نے چڑیا گھر کی سیر کی تھی ؟ |
| Had you been to Mall before? | کیا تم پہلے کبھی مال گئے تھے ؟ |
| Had the girl sung a song? | کیا لڑکی نے گانا گایا تھا ؟ |
| Had the passenger lost train? | کیا مسافر نے گاڑی کھو دی تھی ؟ |
| Had people gone to Murree? | کیا لوگ مری گئے تھے ؟ |
